Process for a low-volume stainless steel pump impeller

Hi all, I’m designing a stainless steel impeller for a small pump (diameter around 80 mm). Would you go for metal additive manufacturing or casting if you need tight tolerances on the blades and good corrosion resistance? The quantities are low, maybe 50–60 pieces a year.

This sounds quite specialised. What material are you considering using? Do you know precisely what fluids you need to have material compatibility with?

The material will be a major part of the manufacturing process decision. Generally, only high-end stainless materials are available for additive manufacturing. Almost all of your “standard” stainless steels will be cast and will be much cheaper as well.
