Gearing

Good evening. I would like to know which 3D printing technology is suitable for small gears with a diameter of 16mm. And what material should be used? Thank you very much.

Solved by Nikolaus Mroncz
Hey, if you want to stick on plastic, I would prefer SLS and PA12 or if budget allows, PA11. To achieve accuracy, processing is the right way. Meaning to do, like you did, printing the part, measuring and if it's not good to reprint, but it must be in the same technology, material and machine

      Hey Pulido,

sure you can. The diameter is not the problem, Material is best in stainless 316.

    • Thank you. I would like to make them in plastic. So, is fused deposition modeling precise enough? My gear has a module of 1 small tooth. Or should I go through Multi Jet Fusion (MJF), my goal is to be as precise as possible. I’m not sure whether or not to incorporate tolerances to compensate for precision flaws. For example, a cross-section that was supposed to be 1.8mm wide ended up being 1.6mm, so I will need to increase the size of the passage.
