Good morning everyone,
I am intending to fabricate a model for biomedical applications, and the Xometry staff has suggested stereolithography as the fabrication method and Industrial Transparent ABS-like material, which can meet the basic requirements (strength, low moisture absorption, and transparency).
My concern is about its prolonged use, especially if in contact with liquids that will in turn come in contact with biological material. An additional problem is reuse of the part, that is, between uses it will be necessary to sterilize the part, and since it does not withstand autoclave temperatures, the only way available to me is with ethanol. Does this lead to damage to the material?

Thank you in advance for anyone who can help and give me an answer.
Good day to all,
Federico

Hi Frederico,

the SLA translucent is good to make first trails, to sterilize and reuse might be challengin,g there I expect the material to age quite fast. For this kind of applications injection molded parts are best.

      Hello Federico,

Have you considered other manufacturing technologies, e.g. injection moulding? Or are you limited to only 3D printing?

Good point, I also think that the choice for transparent materials in 3D printing is quite limited. You can add e.g. lacquering to ensure better usability and prolong its use, but still it’s not comparable to injection moulded transparent parts with e.g. ABS LG TR558A
