I’m designing a protective enclosure for an outdoor sensor unit in SolidWorks, and I need to estimate how much polyurethane coating I’ll need. When I use the Evaluate – Mass Properties tool, it seems to include all internal faces of the assembly, which throws off the paint calculation. Has anyone found a reliable way to get only the external, exposed surface area of an assembled part? Any workflow tips would be really helpful.

    Just use the measure tool and select the surfaces you need. You can also color the surfaces in a special colour to keep the selection and select the surfaces at once by clicking on the color.
