Description:
Aluminium 2017A / Al-Cu4Mg is an age-hardenable wrought alloy that offers a combination of high strength and good ductility. It is typically used in the aerospace industry for structural components that require a high strength-to-weight ratio. It can be heat treated to achieve a wide range of properties, depending on the desired application. For example, it can be heat treated to produce a strong, yet ductile material that is well suited for use in structural applications.

Finishing options
-
As-machined
This is a finish option with the fastest turnaround. Parts are left with visible tool marks and potentially sharp edges and burrs, which can be removed upon request.
Final result:
- Machining marks are visible
- Light surface scratches are visible
-
CNC machined part without surface finishes (3D render, aluminium)Bead blasting (3D render)
Bead blasting
Bead blasting involves spraying a pressurised stream of tiny beads of media, plastic or glass beads, from a nozzle onto the surface of the part. This removes the burrs and imperfections, leaving a smooth finish.
Notes:The recommended part size is 6-600 mm in both height and width. Smaller parts are hard to hold and tough to produce an even surface.
Final result:
- Uniform, matte or satin-like appearance
- Slightly grainy in the touch
-
Anodizing (Type II)
Type II anodize provides increased corrosion resistance and can be used as a base for paint and other finishes.
Notes:- Involves using dyes to affect the part’s surface color
- Type II coatings are susceptible to wear and may bleach or fade under prolonged direct sunlight
- Possibility of requesting custom colors (RAL)
Available colors:
- Any custom RAL color
-
Hardcoat anodizing (type III)
Type III hardcoat anodize produces a thicker layer of standard anodizing, making it more durable and wear-resistant. Can be used as a base for paint and other finishes.
Notes:- Colors tend to come out slightly dark due to thickness
- Anodized colors cannot be matched to specific Pantone or RAL colors
Available colors:
- Any custom color
-
Annealing
The annealing process involves the heating of a metal to or near the temperature at which recrystallisation begins without change in the stresses. After heating, the metal is cooled to room temperature in the oven or put in the sand.
Final result:
- Improved cold working capacity of the metal
-
Custom Finishing
If you select a custom finish in the Instant Quoting Engine it will require manual review. Manual quoting usually takes 1-2 business days.
Notes:Submitting for manual review with a custom request does not guarantee a quote.
